Types of Academic Essays

An essay is a literary composition that outlines an author’s argument. However the definition of an essay has been redefined to include a newspaper article, a novel, book, or even an e-book. Essays historically have been classed as academic or formal depending on the purpose for which they are written. For essays written for a university classroom, for example the general tone is one of intelligence and sophistication while a pulp magazine article will be more of fun and whimsy. The main challenge in essay writing is defining a clear subject, and then writing an essay that is readable and understandable by a wide audience.

Structure is an important element of any essay. The structure of an essay is the foundation of every paragraph. A well-structured essay consists of four major sections: introduction, body to body, conclusion, and conclusion. The introduction is usually the most important section of the essay, because top paper companies it provides the reader with the necessary information needed to begin reading. The body of an essay is where you present the main idea or the thesis of the essay. It is here that the writer is able to take any issues raised throughout the paper and develop arguments that are fully developed.

The body of the essay demands the development of the argumentative theme in discussion. This is where the writer can present either an argument or a narrative. This is especially relevant if they draw on personal experiences (e.g.an instance study) or using research reports (e.g.research essay). The argumentative essay, also referred to as a thesis statement is the most well-known type of argumentative essay. This is a written essay that brings together all the views or points of view that the author has and combines them into a single logical viewpoint. The thesis statement can differ substantially from one author to another, depending on the subject to be discussed.

The introduction is where the writer starts their essay. It is where the reader is introduced with the ideas that are covered in the body of the essay. There are many ways to begin an essay. The traditional method for introducing an essay is to briefly discuss the topic. Modern methods of introducing the topic include a discussion between the writer and the reader at the beginning of the essay.

A discussion of the thesis statement, also known as the central argument, is among the most well-known ways to begin an essay. The thesis statement is typically created within the context of the essay. If the essay is based on personal experiences, the introduction may explain how the essay was written and what the writer’s view is. It could also discuss the assumptions that were made and how they relate to the writer’s personal experience. In a research paper, for example the thesis could describe the research conducted by the writer, and might describe the factors that influenced the study’s data and findings of that study.

A discussion of the thesis statement is another method to start an essay. This can be done in the body of the essay itself such as in the case of an introduction, or it can be done with the reader in mind, as in the case of an essay that is narrative. A narrative essay is at its core the story or set of stories. The main character in the story is the primary subject of the story and the events that unfold within the plot develop the character’s perspective throughout the essay. Narrative essays allow the author to fully develop the primary topic of the essay.

The third kind, the expository essay, is focused on descriptive essay content. An expository essay provides new and relevant information on the subject. For example, if the essay is based on Shakespeare then the argument might point out that the most famous playwright in the English language wrote to his wife, Elizabeth, while she was in exile in the West Indies. The writer paints a complete portrait of the person and also reveals aspects of his character that aren’t revealed in his writing.
